Creating Leaders in Sport and Life
The Student Athlete Leadership Academy
was first held in August of 2005.
This annual event, held on the campus of
Robert Morris University, brings together over 250 student athletes from
over 50 schools in Western Pennsylvania.
SALA, which is sponsored by UPMC,
is endorsed by the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Western Pennsylvania
Interscholastic Athletic Association (WPIAL).
Schools from the WPIAL
and the City of Pittsburgh are asked to nominate student athletes they
identify as team leaders or captains.
Once accepted, these individuals are able to attend a
day which features guest speakers from various sport, business, and community
organization.
There are also interactive teambuilding
sessions for SALA attendees.
